Let’s face it, a large part of the urban population live in apartments, condos or dormitories. These are residences where space is an issue and maintaining a recycling program is not always easy to do. In today’s fast-paced world, if something is not simple and convenient, it is often lost or forgotten. We can’t let this happen to our recycling efforts. The world is too precious a resource to neglect. So, what can we do?
For starters, the idea of having a large curb side recycling container or blue box right inside your apartment or condo is simply not an option. There just isn’t the space for it. What is required is a smaller recycle bin which fits conveniently in a closet or under your kitchen sink. Only by making it convenient to collect items in recycling containers can we assure that these items indeed find their way into our recycling programs. Keeping recyclables out of the trash and in recycling bins is the first step in doing our part.
Another good idea is to find a recycle container that is not only small enough to be used in apartment recycling, but that can also act as a stackable recycle bin. This way, you can create your own recycling station right in your apartment, condo or dormitory. When recycling is convenient, recycling is successful.
